Introducing The Eat for Endurance Podcast!

The Eat for Endurance Podcast Claire Shorenstein

I am so excited to announce a project that I've been meaning to start for years and finally - at 33 weeks pregnant - have managed to launch...The Eat for Endurance Podcast!

Another Podcast?!

I know...there are SO many out there, especially in the health/nutrition/fitness space. But I hope to offer something a little unique - or at least some inspiration, knowledge, and entertainment.

You can expect a variety of formats, including solo episodes on various nutrition topics, interviews with fellow dietitians and other people of interest, and - what I am most excited about - my Athlete Nutrition Profile Series, which explores the life and careers of my guests through a nutrition lens. I would also love to record shorter episodes dedicated to answering YOUR burning nutrition questions!

My Goals For The Eat for Endurance Podcast

The over-arching message I wish to send through The Eat for Endurance Podcast, and especially through the athlete nutrition profiles, is that there is no one-size fits all way of eating for optimal health and performance. Equally, there is no such thing as "perfect" eating. Yes, we have guidelines and goals that we keep in mind while striving to eat well and fuel adequately, but balanced, healthy eating is far more complex than consuming a combination of macro and micronutrients! My hope is to show that there are so many different, wonderful ways of eating that can be successful - or perhaps at times not so successful - for active individuals. I want to inspire my listeners to shy away from dogmatic nutrition approaches and instead to be open to exploring and experimenting with their diets to find out what works specifically for their unique bodies, preferences and lifestyles. Because as you probably know, there is a lot of misinformation and nutrition noise out there, and many of my athletes come to me with unhealthy relationships with food as well as a lot of confusion.

I plan to release 2 episodes per month, but to kick things off, I have an intro plus two full episodes available for you to download and listen to right away! See below for descriptions and links to these episodes on Apple Podcasts.

Episode 1: Welcome to the Eat for Endurance Podcast

A short episode introducing me and my vision for the Eat for Endurance Podcast.

Episode 2: Intuitive Eating, Weight, and Athletes with Heather Caplan, RDN

Registered Dietitian Heather Caplan

Meet Heather Caplan – a D.C. based Registered Dietitian, freelance writer, running coach, yoga teacher, podcast host, and mother. We discuss Intuitive Eating, how sports nutrition fits into Intuitive Eating, HAES (health at every size), weight and sports performance, weight and health, and pre-natal and postpartum running.

Episode 3: Athlete Nutrition Profile - Peloton Coach Matt Wilpers

Peloton instructor Matt Wilpers running cycling coach

This episode is the first of my Athlete Nutrition Profile Series, and I am very excited to kick things off with Peloton instructor and coach Matt Wilpers! Matt and I go back many years, to when we met in NYC coaching a triathlon team together. He’s an incredible athlete and coach who brings both science and fun to training, which is exactly how I like to approach nutrition with my clients. Matt has competed in many sports, including as an NCAA Division I Cross Country and Track distance runner for Georgia State University. He also has been coaching runners and cyclists for over 10 years, with positions at Equinox, Mile High Run Club, and currently, at Peloton, where he leads the PowerZone training programs along with Denis Morton and also teaches at the Tread studio.

I hope you enjoy the fun discussion that we had at the Peloton HQ last month!
